Christmas at Brentor

At Brentor Church, the seasons of Advent, Christmas and Epiphany are important to us. Through our various church services at this time of year, we celebrate the gifts of love, hope, and joy given freely by God to us in the form of the Christ Child, born in a lowly stable in Bethlehem over two thousand years ago.

Our services are open to all because we believe it’s important to share the love, hope, and jot that is to be found in Jesus Christ.

For 2025, we have a full book of services planned:

Advent

In advent we prepare for the coming of Christ – his coming to Bethlehem thousands of years ago, and his return in glory.

Sunday 30th November

Advent Carol Service – 10am at Christ Church

A special service of Advent hymns and carols – quite different from the Christmas carols most people are more familiar with! Followed by refreshments.

Sunday 7th December

Advent Holy Communion – 10am at Christ Church

A service of Holy Communion, followed by refreshments

Wednesday 10th December

Carols by Candlelight – 6pm at Christ Church

Join us and the Brentor Church Choir to sing carols and listen to traditional readings, followed by mulled wine and mince pies!

Sunday 14th December

Advent Prayer and Praise – 10am at Christ Church

A lively and joyous worship service, followed by refreshments

Nativity at Gulworthy – 2.30pm at St Paul’s, Gulworthy

We join with our neighbours around Gulworthy for a retelling of the Nativity – in costume!

Sunday 21st December

Advent Holy Communion – 10am at Christ Church

A service of Holy Communion, followed by refreshments

Christmas

The celebration of the birth of the Christ Child, God Incarnate, God with us, Jesus Christ

Christmas Eve, Wednesday 24th December

Nativity Service – 4pm at Christ Church

A family Nativity service with children’s carols and re-enactments around the Crib

Midnight Mass – 11pm at Christ Church

Holy Communion timed to conclude with the great “Yea Lord we greet Thee/Born this happy morning” at midnight!

Christmas Day, Thursday 25th December

Christmas Day Carol Service – 3pm at St Michael’s

The famous Christmas Day service – bring warm clothing and weather-suitable footwear and join with us all in the ancient church of St Michael de Rupe on Brentor to celebrate Christmas. Christmas jumpers and dogs optional but welcome!

Sunday 28th December

Benefice Service – 10am at St Peter’s, Peter Tavy

Join with all the churches in our Benefice to worship together; this year at Peter Tavy.

Epiphany

At Epiphany, we remember the visit of the Magi or Wise Men, and the revelation of Jesus as Lord and God of all humanity.

Epiphany Holy Communion – 10am at Christ Church

A service of Holy Communion for the Epiphany, followed by refreshments
